For a good reason, weight loss is called a “journey”
Healthy weight loss is gradual and persists for long. From my experience anyone can loose weight. Yes, you read it right. The only pre requisite is determination.
I read an inspiring quote a while back –
“Weight Loss happens ONLY when you are determined and willing at the same time!”.
Once this is conquered, the other factors are something you can very well align. In this post I intend to list my top 5 TODO’s to get you on a weight loss journey.
Water – You must drink atleast 8-10 glasses of water. The the”right” amount of water intake should be guided by the color of your urine. A perfectly hydrated body would eliminate clear urine. Go slow as you can’t change a habit overnight. Read simple tips to know how you can gradually increase your water intake.
Morning Routine – Once you are awake, what you give to your body, first thing, is of immense significance. To keep it simple for mommies, just a warm glass of water followed by a warm glass of lemon water is perfect to rejuvenate your body. Other easy option can be coconut water.
Night time Routine – As per Ayurveda, your digestive fire is guided by the strength of sun rays. Hence it is commonly advised to eat light at night as the digestive fire is very slow (in absence of sun). You must avoid grains at night. Eat light green vegetables and lentils and give your body time to digest food. Remain awake ATLEAST 3-4 hours before hitting bed. If possible, have a cup of warm water or jeera or ajwain water an hour before sleeping. This will aid your digestive fire while you are asleep.
Eat everything!! Homemade, seasonal and preservative free.
Add seasonal fruits and remove processed food –
Remember what you get in a supermarket shelf is not food but “products”. The shelf life is increased by adding preservatives. For eg the milk you get daily. If left in open, will turn into curd. However the tetra pack of milk does not spoil for at least 7-8 days. This longer shelf life comes at cost of added preservatives and diminished nutritional value. So go ahead and removed processed food for you palette. Add seasonal fruits and vegetables instead.
Warm up your body – Before you set yourself to tough fitness challenges, your body must be prepared for it. While watching your food and hydration gives it the right lubrication, you must bring your self into a routine of some light exercises. Start with a 15 mins walk. Step it up with stretching exercises. And eventually start jogging. Without this any HIIT, Strength workouts are going to leave you with pain or sore body.
Yes, Eating right is an “ART” Sadly. As it doesn’t come to us so easily. 🙂
Does eating less at night has any relation with sleep quality. I have seen whenever I eat less at night, my sleep is messed up.
